Ballet / Jazz / Tap
available for ages 5-12
This class combines the disciplines of Ballet, Jazz, and Tap, giving the dancer exposure to multiple genres.
Ballet is the foundation of dance. It is the architect for the dancer’s body to become strong and beautiful for all dance disciplines. We typically begin this class at the ballet barre, moving to center floor, across the floor, and ending with a reverence – all to classical music. Ballet strengthens the body, increases flexibility and creates agility and grace of movement.
Jazz is the style of dance often seen on Broadway or television. Students warm up with stretching, isolations, strengthening exercises, and “across the floor” exercises including turns and leaps. We’ll incorporate a combination that is usually fast-paced, rhythmically-based and danced to traditional jazz music and uplifting popular music. Jazz is a great discipline to help a dancer discover the joy of moving.
Tap is a discipline in which sounds and rhythms are created with tap shoes. Students not only learn the fundamentals of tap including shuffles, time steps and flaps, but also important jazz techniques in class. Traditional jazz music and uplifting popular music will be used in class.
