Student Dance Assistant
Eligibility
To be eligible for the Student Assistant Program, students must:
As of September 2025, be in PA Level 4 or above, 14 years old & 7th grade or older.
Be responsible and follow all rules of Prairie School of Dance, the PA Contract, as well as always set a positive example.
Expectations: Student Assistants are expected to commit to a specific number of classes to assist each week and are expected to be present for those classes. In addition, student assistants are expected to set an example for other students, in behavior, dance technique, and dress, both inside and out of the dance studio. Students are expected to fulfill their PA contract and attend their own classes, including technique class, on a regular basis.
Events: Assistants are expected to participate and help during the following events: Dance Year Kick Off Party, Open Houses, REC School Christmas Show, (PA Christmas Show), Staff Christmas Party, PA Rehearsal & Party, PA Spotlight & PA Showcase, Photo Week, and all dress rehearsals & performances. Plan to arrive early for set-up and stay late to help with clean-up. Specific times will be given closer to the date of the events.
Compensation: Student Assistants will be employees of PSOD and financially compensated for their time.
Opportunities: Student Assistants will be invited to perform in the Teacher/Assistant Dance in the Spring Recital.
Application Process: Apply yearly online. An interview will be offered after your submission. Acceptance & Class Placements will be given in August. An initial Leadership Training Class will be held during Boot Camp, Thursday, Aug. 7th 1:00 - 2:00pm.
Student Teacher Trainee
Eligibility
To be eligible for the Student Teacher Trainee Program, students must:
As of September 2025, be in Level 4 or above, and in 10th grade or above.
Must have a minimum of one year of PSOD Assisting experience.
Be responsible and follow all rules of Prairie School of Dance, the PA Contract, as well as always set a positive example.
Expectations: PSOD's Student Teacher Training Program is an extension to the current Assistant Program while further focusing on co-teaching within the classroom, lesson planning, choreographic education as well as lead teaching opportunities throughout the year and summer programming. Must model maturity, integrity, and responsibility.
Events: Trainees are expected to participate and help during the following events: Dance Year Kick Off Party, Open Houses, REC School Christmas Show, (PA Christmas Show), Staff Christmas Party, PA Rehearsal & Party, PA Spotlight & PA Showcase, Photo Week, and all dress rehearsals & performances.
